Festival-goers given insurance advice

People planning on heading to music festivals over the summer months have been urged by an insurance provider to ensure they belongings are insured.

esure Home Insurance has stated that those heading to the events should make sure they have personal possession cover for expensive items they are planning to take with them, including digital cameras and mp3 players.

However, the firm also warned that if valuables are left in a tent which does not feature a lock, insurance may not cover them.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, said festivals are "havens for opportunistic thieves and pick-pockets".

He added: "The very nature of these types of music events radically increases the likelihood of belongings being accidentally dropped, misplaced or damaged."

esure also recently urged holidaymakers that are travelling to areas regularly affected by adverse weather to ensure they have travel insurance.

Research by the company found that less than half of those planning a trip abroad check severe weather warnings before booking a break.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18631183-ADNFCR
